Will my cellphone work on Nevis?

  • Cellphones on Nevis operate on the north American system. The local provider is Cable and Wireless.
  • If you have an American/Canadian cellphone, there is a good chance that your provider will have an arrangement for you to use the local network. Check with your provider before leaving home.
  • If you have a European cellphone, the technology is not quite the same, so the chances are your cellphone may not work on Nevis.
  • If you are from Europe, and a regular traveller to north America, you may have a dual technology cellphone, in which case check whether your service provider has an arrangement with the local network.

Can I use the telephone at Hill Rise House?

  • We have two fixed line telephones for the use of our guests. One line in each house.
  • Be careful! International calls are very expensive! Get the overseas party to call you back whenever possible.
  • If you use the phones, we ask you pay for international call charges if they exceed US$10 in total.
  • You will not be charged for local calls.
  • Chargeable calls (inclusive of Government Tax) will be billed to guests within about 2 months of their departure.
  • In more than 14 years we have never had a visitor fail to settle a phone bill, so please do not let us down!

Do you have a fax machine?

  • Yes. It is on the telephone line in the Guest House.
  • If you are expecting to send/receive faxes, and the Guest House is unoccupied, ask our housekeeper for the key.
  • For sending faxes, please see the information above in respect of call charges.
  • If you expect to receive faxes, please keep an eye on amount of paper on the roll.

Do you have internet access?

  • First check with your usual Internet Service Provider to see if they have local dial-up arrangements for St. Kitts and Nevis.
  • We have a dial-up account with the local ISP.
  • This is normally de-activated when the owners are not in residence.
  • For guests who bring their own laptop, and with advance warning, we will provide them with our local dial-up user-name and password for a US$30 fee payable locally to our housekeeper. This charge will cover the change of password from time to time, and will include up to 10 hours of internet service plus a minor over run.
  • Any substantial internet usage beyond 10 hours will be billed at US$1.50 per hour on the phone bill.
  • Guests who intend to spend very little time on line, may prefer to dial their own ISP (if possible) and pay the relevant international phone call charge instead; but remember, it does not take long to log up US$30 worth of international phone call charges.
