Do I need to rent a car?

  • We are 1½ miles from the nearest shop and main road busses. Having a rental car for the duration will make your life much easier. Best to book in advance. Avis and Thrifty are both represented on the island. Most of our guests book a car with Mervin, a small local operator.

Is there a bus service?

  • Nearest bus stop 1½ miles walk. Mini busses operate in quantity in the "rush hours" and can be a bit scarce in between.

What are the roads like?

  • The main road round the west and south of the island has recently been imporoved - a new smooth surface. There are many hazards, so be careful, defensive and drive on the left.
  • The main road on the north and east of the island is rough tarmac often with potholes and unexpected dips for water drainage.
  • Side roads are concrete strips or less!
  • Goats, sheep, chickens, donkeys etc. often stray on to the roads. Again - be careful, defensive and drive on the left.

How easy is it to get a taxi?

  • Usually no problem.

How about a bike or scooter?

  • Mountain Bikes and scooters are available for hire.

Can I hitch hike?

  • Many drivers (but not all) are in no hurry, and do not mind stopping.
