I know Nevis, where exactly are you?

We are at the western end of the old Montpelier sugar plantation which is in the southern quarter of the island.
Just up the road is the world famous, small and exclusive Montpelier Plantation Hotel, and the Botanical Gardens.

Do you have a sea view?

We enjoy 180° panoramic views over the Caribbean Sea to the islands of St. Kitts, Saba and St. Eustacius.
Watch ferries, merchant ships and ocean liners passing by.

Can I enjoy Caribbean sunsets?

How far from the beaches and what are they like?

Caribbean coast: long stretches of white sand, normally calm waters, palm trees, a few hotels and beach bars, many deserted spots, water sports. Nearest point 20 minutes by car.
Atlantic coast: there is a beautiful sandy beach near the horserace track - wilder waters, no shade or facilities but often deserted. 15 minutes.
North coast: soft powdery coral sand at the Nisbet Plantation Inn. Reef for snorkelling. Other deserted beaches near the airport. 30 minutes.

How far from the shops/banks etc.?

There is a local shop 5 minutes drive up the road.
Charlestown the capital with its banks, shopping arcades and supermarkets, is about 15 minutes drive.
Other convenience stores about 10 minutes away.

How far from the airport by car?

We measure by time rather than distance, as speeds are slower than a visitor might expect back home. (unless you live in London or Paris!!)
To the airport via the West coast, 25 minutes
Via the East coast, 35 minutes

What are the advantages of being away from the beach?

Stay on the beach, and you have to spend evenings behind screens to keep the bugs away.
At sea level it is much hotter and often no breeze, so air conditioning is normal.
The plantation owners built their great houses on higher ground whenever possible to take advantage of cooler air.
At Hill Rise House, we are 500 feet up, enjoy unscreened verandahs, cooling breezes, and at night, a fairyland of lights twinkle below us. Up here, the rustling palms, whispering caraurinas and whistling tree frogs are a fitting substitute for the sounds of the sea shore.
