What
are the food shops like?
-
They generally offer a good variety, although fresh produce runs out from
time to time.
- Fresh produce can be obtained in the Charlestown market. There are also a couple of good roadside stalls, one on the road to Gingerland, and another in Cades Bay. Some days are better than others. Ask our housekeeper for advice.
- Soft drinks and beers can be purchased in bulk at the Drinks Depot behind TDC Hardware on the Pinneys Industrial Estate.
- There are three major supermarkets on the island with good parking facilties.
- There are lots of smaller shops in Charlestown and numerous convenience stores around the island.
- If you have difficulty getting fresh fish, lobster etc., our housekeeper will order it for you. Supplies can be a problem at peak times (eg Christmas/New Year) so if local seafood is important to you, it might be a good idea for us to place an order for you a couple of weeks before arrival.
- Food is expensive as much has to be imported, and local fresh produce has a short shelf life because of the climate.
