What are the food shops like?

  • They generally offer a good variety, although fresh produce runs out from time to time.
  • Fresh produce can be obtained in the Charlestown market. There are also a couple of good roadside stalls, one on the road to Gingerland, and another in Cades Bay. Some days are better than others. Ask our housekeeper for advice.
  • Soft drinks and beers can be purchased in bulk at the Drinks Depot behind TDC Hardware on the Pinneys Industrial Estate.
  • There are three major supermarkets on the island with good parking facilties.
  • There are lots of smaller shops in Charlestown and numerous convenience stores around the island.
  • If you have difficulty getting fresh fish, lobster etc., our housekeeper will order it for you. Supplies can be a problem at peak times (eg Christmas/New Year) so if local seafood is important to you, it might be a good idea for us to place an order for you a couple of weeks before arrival.
  • Food is expensive as much has to be imported, and local fresh produce has a short shelf life because of the climate.

Is it a good idea to bring food with me?

  • You might save money or get the quality or brand you prefer.
  • If you like cheese, bring it with you (vacuum packed and in a cool bag). The choice on Nevis is abysmal!

Do I need to bring alcoholic drinks with me?

  • Don't bother unless your tipple is something less usual. Alcohol is not expensive on Nevis. You might like to pick up a bottle of Duty Free on your journey, but rum will probably be cheaper on Nevis.

And Cigarettes?

  • Maybe cheaper on Nevis than "Duty Free" during your journey.
